POTUS wrapped up his remarks at 7:56 PM local. Speech ran roughly 76 minutes.
The Rolling Stones’ “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” played over the
loudspeaker as President Trump concluded.
Crowd was on its feet nearly the entire time as POTUS spoke.
Loudest cheers came when the president mentioned Nebraska, which is right across
the river from Council Bluffs. Trump appeared surprised by all the Cornhuskers
in the crowd, saying, “they said, ‘sir you’re speaking in Iowa, but there may be
a few people coming in from Nebraska.'”
Trump apparently decided it was fine that most in the crowd were from Nebraska,
rather than Iowa. “Doesn’t matter … we love both, you’ve got farmers in both.”
Some selected moments from the rally:
– POTUS mocked Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) for denying that she leaked
Christine Blasey Ford’s sexual assault allegations against Brett Kavanaugh. “In
other words, did she leak it? 100 percent. I don’t want to get sued. 99
percent,” Trump said.
That prompted chants of “Lock her up! Lock her up!” from the crowd.
– POTUS took aim at many of his Democratic rivals and took another shot at Sen.
Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) over her claims of Native American heritage, using
his derisive moniker “Pocahontas.”
“The Democrats have become too extreme and they’ve become, frankly, too
dangerous to govern. They’ve gone wacko. They’ve gone so far left that they
consider Pocahontas to be a rational person. No, it’s crazy. Elizabeth Warren.
Oh, I hope she runs. I hope she runs, I hope she runs.”
Trump said if Warren runs, it would allow him to find out “whether or not she
has Indian blood.”
He also called out Sens. Cory Booker and Richard Blumenthal.
– POTUS touted his new directive lifting restrictions on ethanol in fuel. He
said Democrats want “to take away your ethanol.”
– POTUS on Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), who was sitting to Trump’s right: “He may
be the world’s most conservative human being.”
– Trump referenced his Thursday meeting with rapper Kanye West and NFL great Jim
Brown, saying “they get it.”
– POTUS hit Hillary and Bill Clinton for their decision to tour a speaker tour
post-election. “Well, that’s why she lost the election. She’s never gotten it.”
The crowd chanted “lock her up!” again.
– While discussing trade, Trump referenced a number of South Korean televisions
imported to the U.S. “Samsung, LG … I order a lot of them,” he said to some
– Sixty-eight minutes into his speech, Trump prompted another roar from the
crowd when he said Americans should stand for the national anthem.
“USA! USA! USA!” the crowd cheered.
Trump then said he called the NFL commissioner to work out a problem with
Canadian television rights to the Super Bowl. More details on that here:
