remarks on the mass shootings*
The Vice President arrived to the event at 11:39am and swiftly took the
stage. The audience gave him a standing ovation.
The VP began with a few words about “the horrific shootings” that took
place this weekend in El Paso and Dayton. Reminder that his remarks are
being live-streamed on ADF’s Facebook page, as well as CSPAN and the White
House’s live feed.
“It breaks our hearts to see so many lives cut short by unspeakable
violence. What happened this weekend were acts of pure evil.”
The VP also commended the men and women of law enforcement for their
bravery, to which the audience applauded.
Pence repeated President Trump’s line from his address on Monday, that “our
nation must condemn racism, bigotry and white supremacy.”
“Justice will be swift and certain,” the VP said. He also said that Trump
has directed the FBI and DOJ to prioritize domestic terrorism.
“As we speak our administration is working with members of Congress to
ensure that all of those deemed a risk to public safety are denied access
“As the president also said, now is the time to set destructive
partisanship aside… now is the time to overcome evil with good.”
He also asked the audience to pray for the communities effected as well as
“the nation as a whole.”
