[WH Pool] VP Pool Report #4 — Pence Q&A on religious freedom wrap up
*What are your thoughts on the importance of free speech?*
The Vice President spoke about the administration’s work to promote free
speech on college campuses, and said we need to “challenge — what do you
call them, ‘safe zones’ on college campuses… and speech codes.” He called
them “antithetical” to the idea of free speech.
*Farris said that often those who are faithful feel “demeaned” by the
public, and asked for advice on how to deal with that.*
Pence said “the second greatest day of his life was marrying Karen
Whitaker,” and the greatest day of his life was when he “accepted Jesus
“The lessons I’ve learned in public life in terms of sustaining [our
religion] is to make time. Make time for renewing your mind.” He said that
every day he and Karen read the bible together.
“Being home for dinner, being home for your family … setting a day aside
a week that is a time for worship and for family.”
The VP and Farris completed their “fireside chat” at 12:15pm. Pence then
came down from the stage and is now shaking hands and mingling with members
of the audience.
